Being Beloved

How To Safely Cross The Street

"Amidst a thousand snares I stand upheld and guarded by Thy hand;
that hand unseen shall hold me still,
and lead me to Thy holy hill." - C. H. Spurgeon, Faith's Checkbook

I know they are there behind me and if I run they will too. They are truth stolen and fear rewarded, hope declined and love destroyed. Then there is faith, “the substance of things hoped for, evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1) Faith is a collision of spiritual and physical. Divine and human nature are united.

“Faith in this way, toward hope, trains our imagination to seek out, ‘evidence of things not seen.'” If we look expectantly like a child waiting to hold an adult hand to cross the street of a busy intersection, God promises His hand. I don’t know what God’s hand being held out looks like to you but I’m sure once you start seeking the evidence of things not seen you will see it. Lord, help us see clearly or through the clouds of fog, either way, let us see with the eyes of our heart.

There is this promise we can all hold onto:

I will lift up my eyes to the hills—
From whence comes my help?
 My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.

 He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
 Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep.

 The Lord is your keeper;
The Lord is your shade at your right hand.
 The sun shall not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night.

 The Lord shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.
 The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and even forevermore. Psalm 121

I cannot preserve myself, nobody can. The one who keeps us never sleeps and none of His Beloved daughters or sons will ever be moved. He is a God who creates newness and beauty amidst the chaos. If the Lord does not allow us to ever be plucked out of His hand, nothing, no human, no evil, no devouring enemy that hates our soul will prevail.

The dearest parts of us are safe and sound. I have faith. I will stop looking behind me and I won’t run carelessly ahead. I will reach out my hand to the empty air with all my hope that there will be substance there, something like evidence that He is and I am not.
